DEHRADUN: In an era when academic pressure, changing lifestyles and increasingly sedentary habits are becoming a part of children’s everyday lives, awareness about health and preventive care is gaining importance in schools. Recognising the need to introduce students to healthy living practices at an early age, a special Ayurveda and health awareness workshop was organised at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIP, Mohkampur, Dehradun.
The workshop aimed at creating awareness among students about the importance of a healthy and disciplined lifestyle and highlighted the role that everyday habits can play in maintaining physical and mental well-being. Experts explained to the students that healthcare should not begin only after an illness develops. Instead, maintaining good health requires regular attention to diet, daily routine, physical activity, personal hygiene, adequate rest and other healthy practices.
The session was conducted with the objective of making students aware of the practical aspects of Ayurveda and encouraging them to incorporate healthy habits into their everyday lives.

Experts interact with students
The workshop featured interaction with two experts from the Faculty of Ayurveda, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Main Campus, Harrawala, Dehradun.
The expert speakers were Dr Rajiv Kurele, Associate Professor and Academic Superintendent, Main Campus, Faculty of Ayurveda, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Harrawala, Dehradun, and Dr Richa Sharma, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Ayurveda, Main Campus, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Harrawala, Dehradun.
During the programme, the experts interacted directly with the students and discussed several aspects of health and lifestyle. Instead of limiting the discussion to the theoretical aspects of Ayurveda, they explained how principles related to healthy living can be incorporated into routine activities.
The students were encouraged to understand that health is closely connected with everyday choices. The experts discussed the importance of developing good habits during childhood, as habits formed at an early age can influence lifestyle and health in the future.
Prevention begins with daily habits
A major focus of the workshop was on preventive healthcare. The experts explained that individuals should not wait for health problems to appear before paying attention to their lifestyle.
Students were advised to maintain a regular daily routine and avoid irregular eating patterns and unhealthy habits. The importance of consuming balanced and nutritious food was also discussed.
The experts emphasised that a healthy lifestyle does not necessarily depend on complicated measures. Simple practices such as eating appropriate food, maintaining personal cleanliness, remaining physically active, getting adequate rest and following a disciplined routine can make an important contribution to overall well-being.
The students were also encouraged to become more conscious of their own health and to understand the connection between daily habits and long-term well-being.

Ayurveda linked with everyday life
One of the important aspects of the workshop was the effort to present Ayurveda as a practical approach to healthy living rather than merely as a subject of academic study.
The experts discussed various aspects of daily life, including the beginning of the day, food habits, physical activity, yoga, rest and personal hygiene. Students were encouraged to observe their own daily routines and identify habits that could be improved.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of maintaining a proper balance between study, physical activity, rest and recreation. With children spending increasing amounts of time in academic and digital environments, the experts stressed the need for regular physical movement and healthy daily practices.
The students were also made aware of the importance of cleanliness and personal hygiene as essential components of a healthy lifestyle.
Yoga and physical activity highlighted
The role of yoga and regular physical activity was another important component of the discussion. Students were encouraged to include appropriate physical activity in their daily routine.
The experts explained that remaining physically active is important for maintaining overall fitness and should not be overlooked because of academic commitments. A balanced routine, they said, should provide adequate time for studies as well as physical activity and rest.
The discussion also encouraged students to look at health in a comprehensive manner, where food, routine, physical activity, cleanliness and adequate rest work together as components of a healthy lifestyle.
Students actively participate in interaction
The workshop also provided an opportunity for students to interact with the visiting experts and raise questions related to health, food habits and daily routines.
The experts responded to the students’ queries and encouraged them to remain aware of their own health. The interactive nature of the programme helped students connect the information being discussed with their everyday experiences.
Rather than simply receiving information, students were encouraged to think about their own habits and understand how small but consistent changes can contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
Ayurveda’s broader message of healthy living
The programme, organised on the occasion of Ayurveda Day, also highlighted the broader approach of Ayurveda towards health.
The experts explained that Ayurveda is not limited to the treatment of disease. Its approach also places emphasis on protecting the health of healthy individuals and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
The message delivered during the workshop was particularly relevant for school-going children, as early awareness about healthy living can help them develop responsible habits. Students were encouraged to understand that health is a continuous process and that maintaining it requires regular attention.
The workshop highlighted the importance of nutritious food, disciplined daily routines, yoga, physical activity, personal hygiene and adequate rest as important elements of healthy living.
School plays an important role in health awareness
The programme also underlined the growing role of educational institutions in creating health awareness among children. Schools are not only places for academic learning but can also provide students with practical knowledge about responsible living.
The school expressed its gratitude to the experts for interacting with the students and sharing their knowledge. The programme was seen as an opportunity to strengthen students’ understanding of health and encourage them to develop healthier habits.
The workshop also conveyed an important message that good health is not the result of a single day’s effort. It is built gradually through regular, disciplined and responsible lifestyle choices.
Message for the younger generation
The interaction with the Ayurveda experts gave students an opportunity to understand that maintaining good health begins with everyday decisions. Whether it is choosing nutritious food, following a regular routine, maintaining cleanliness, staying physically active, practising yoga or getting sufficient rest, each habit contributes to a person’s overall lifestyle.
The workshop therefore served as a practical platform for connecting traditional health knowledge with the everyday lives of young students.
For the students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIP, Mohkampur, the programme was not merely an awareness session but an opportunity to reflect on their daily habits and understand the importance of making health a regular part of their lives.
