Speakers urge students to develop character, discipline, integrity and a sense of social responsibility
DEHRADUN,: A Youth Connect programme was organised at Doon (PG) College of Agriculture Science and Technology, Selaqui, in collaboration with Abhyudaya Bharat Rising Forum, Dehradun, with a focus on encouraging young people to develop leadership qualities, discipline, integrity and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Dr Bhalchandra Shingan, UPES, Dehradun and convenor of Abhyudaya Bharat Rising Forum, was the chief guest and keynote speaker at the programme. Addressing the students, he stressed the importance of character-building and responsible citizenship, saying that education should go beyond academic achievement and help young people develop into ethical, responsible and socially conscious citizens.
Shingan said students would have an important role in shaping the future of society and the country. He encouraged them to cultivate qualities such as discipline, honesty, leadership, commitment and social responsibility, which, he said, were essential not only for professional success but also for meaningful participation in society.
He emphasised that educational institutions have a responsibility to provide students with opportunities for intellectual as well as personal development. According to him, academic knowledge becomes more meaningful when it is accompanied by a strong value system, a sense of duty and sensitivity towards society.
As part of the programme, a screening of the documentary ‘Operation Sindoor’ was organised for the students. The documentary provided an opportunity for students to reflect on themes related to courage, duty and national service. The screening was followed by an interaction aimed at encouraging students to think about their responsibilities as citizens.
The programme was also attended by Dr Vaibhav Pratap Singh, General and Laparoscopic Surgeon, Swami Vivekananda Charitable Hospital, and Dr Santan Negi, former Student Head, Western Uttar Pradesh.
Representing the college, Dr R. R. Dwivedi, Assistant Director, and Anuj Singh Rana, Administrative Coordinator, welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of initiatives that connect students with wider social and national issues.
The programme was conducted jointly by Dr R. K. Sharma, Vice-Principal, and Dr Preeti Saxena, Head of the Department of Chemistry. Faculty members, administrative staff and a large number of students attended the event.
The Youth Connect initiative provided students with an interactive platform to discuss issues related to education, character, leadership, citizenship and social responsibility. The speakers encouraged students to use their education and skills not only for individual growth but also for contributing positively to society.
The programme concluded with an emphasis on the need for a balanced approach to education, combining academic learning with character development, ethical values, leadership and a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation.
