Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Uttarakhand State Executive discusses membership drive, organisational expansion, women farmers’ conference, and key issues affecting farmers
Dehradun: The State Executive Committee meeting of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), Uttarakhand, was held at the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh office, Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad, Alaknanda Enclave, Dehradun. The meeting focused on organisational expansion, the upcoming membership campaign, future programmes, and several pressing issues concerning farmers across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Joint Regional Organisation Minister Shivkant Dixit emphasized the need to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level. He urged every office-bearer and worker to adopt five villages, conduct membership drives, and establish active village committees in each of them.
He informed that the membership campaign will be carried out from September 15 to October 15, 2026. This will be followed by the formation of Block Committees between November 15 and December 15, 2026, District Committees from March 15 to May 15, 2027, and finally the State Executive Committee in September 2027.
The meeting also chalked out a strategy for the successful participation of Uttarakhand in the Mahila Kisan Sangh Conference scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 30, 2026. It was decided that 50 women farmers from Udham Singh Nagar, 25 from Haridwar, and 25 from Dehradun would travel to Delhi in separate buses to participate in the conference.
Several key issues affecting farmers were discussed during the meeting. Members demanded an increase in the sugarcane procurement price, free electricity for agricultural tube wells on the lines of Uttar Pradesh, and compensation for farmers whose crops were destroyed due to waterlogging along the 15-km stretch between Laksar and Balawali, where heavy rains caused flooding on both sides of the railway line and adjoining roads.
Uttarakhand Organisation Minister Sukarm Pal Rana stressed that farmers affected by floods and other natural calamities should receive immediate compensation so that they do not suffer financial hardship.
Representatives from different districts shared their views on farmers’ concerns. Those who addressed the meeting included Satpal Rana, Sudhir Chaudhary, and Dr. Azad from Haridwar; State Treasurer Naresh Nautiyal, State Office Secretary Mangtu Singh, and Mamta Rana from Dehradun; Sudhir Shahi, State Publicity Chief Nitin Shahi, and State General Secretary Chaudhary Kunwar Pal Singh from Udham Singh Nagar; Gopal Dobhal from Uttarkashi; and Hira Singh Negi from Rudraprayag.
A major organisational announcement was also made during the meeting. Nripendra Ji, who had been serving as the District Pracharak of Shamli district in the Meerut region, has been assigned the responsibility of Divisional Organisation Minister for Haridwar and Dehradun divisions in Uttarakhand. He was welcomed and felicitated with a traditional shawl by State President Kushal Pal Singh, State General Secretary Chaudhary Kunwar Pal Singh, State Treasurer Naresh Nautiyal, State Office Secretary Mangtu Singh, and other senior office-bearers.
Among those present were Akhil Bharatiya Executive Committee Member Chandrakala Chauhan, Udham Singh Nagar District President Krishna Kandha Tiwari, State Minister Master Chet Ram Nayak, State Executive Member Navneet Mishra, District Organic Farming In-charge Vimlesh Yadav, along with several other office-bearers and workers from across Uttarakhand.
Concluding the meeting, Shivkant Dixit announced that he would undertake a six-district organisational tour from September 10 to September 15, 2026. During the visit, district-level meetings will be held to motivate workers, strengthen the organisation, and ensure the successful implementation of the membership campaign.
He reiterated that the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh remains committed to expanding its organisational network across villages while raising farmers’ issues effectively before the government and working for the welfare of the farming community.
